Guringai Festival (NSW)

Event Details

  • This festival, on the lands of the Guringai Nation of New South Wales (NSW) aims to host a range of family and community events, to keep Guringai people in touch with their culture, and to share that knowledge with other Australians, including other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous people.

    Many presentations are free, whilst some workshops will have an entry fee. Some of the many presentations and workshops will include:

    - connected classrooms - a five week video -
    - conferencing event for primary schools
    - children's voices for reconciliation
    - a number of school arts presentations
    - Indigenous voices: who gave the words?
    - bush walks, talks, didgeridoo and smoking ceremonies
    - bush survival skills
    - dreamtime stories, art and culture
    - the launch of the Macquarie University Reconciliation Action Plan
    - NAIDOC Week at the Macquarie University library - celebrating stories and culture
    - colour your own boomerang
    - cultural heritage walks through North Sydney, NSW
    - a number of bush foods and tucker events, showcasing the oldest foods on Earth
    - traditional basket weaving
    - water, women and wellbeing art session
    - yarning workshops.

    The festival is an initiative of the Guringai Nation in NSW.
