Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm to be completed in 2016

  • 12 October 2015

A new drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre focused on providing care to Indigenous Canberrans is on track to be completed by the middle of 2016. Construction on the Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm began earlier this year with a traditional smoking ceremony taking place at the site.

'We've been able to incorporate ashes from the smoking ceremony held earlier this year, into the heart of building,' Health Minister Simon Corbell said. 'That's very important because this is fundamentally a place of healing for Indigenous people, set in a landscape which is so important to the Ngunnawal people.' The eight-bed centre, located in bushland to Canberra's west, will provide rehabilitation services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from the Canberra region, with a focus on Indigenous spiritual healing.
