The South Australian government have introduced a new scheme to assist in the reconciliation journey for members of the Stolen Generations.

The Next steps - Stolen Generations reparations scheme is a significant step in South Australia's reconciliation journey, and will allow for compensation, as well as the ability for Stolen Generations members to tell their stories, a significant step in the healing process.

Under the new scheme South Australian members of the Stolen Generations who were forcibly removed from their parents will be eligible for an ex gratia payment of up to $50,000.

Applications can be made to the Independent Assessor, Hon. Jon Hill, and individuals will be able to meet with him and speak directly to him about their experiences. The scheme will commence on 31 March 2016, and individuals will have 12 months to apply.
