Hi, Im Tania and live in Marble Bar WA.  I am new to this forum and hope to learn from you all on how we can improve environmental health issues in remote communities.  I have lived and worked in remote communities in various community development/health type roles and see on a daily basis the environmental health issues that impact upon peoples day to day lives.  I look forward to hearing people views and learning more from everyone.

    Hi everyone,

I'm Millie from Perth. I'm the new IO for this topic, but you may already know this from the fortnightly digests I've been sending out!

I studied Communications, which is a little off topic, however I have an interest in Indigenous health, and I'd like to see the health gap close in my lifetime.

    Hi Clayton,
Thanks for your response. Yeah I was told the QLD Government are going through major changes and cutting jobs. That would be great if you could assist me with meeting the right people I don't know anyone in the area yet. I will be moving to Townsville in 4 weeks.

    Regards
    Hannah

Hi Hannah, my name is Clayton Abeu and I work for Qld Health Cairns Public Health Unit and my role is Indigenous EH program Officer. My work area covers south to Mackay and north to PNG border which includes Townsville. I suggest looking at local Government first because Qld Government is going through major changes and when that settles I can assist with connecting to the right people in Townsville. Clayton Abreu

Hi, Im currently employed with NSW Health as an Aboriginal Environmental Health Officer Trainee. I'm based in Taree NSW. I have been in my position for 3 years now. I would have completed my traineeship in another 3 years however I am moving to Townsville. I am going to continue to study and hopefully I can continue to work in Environmental Health. We are half way through Housing for Health so its a shame that I am leaving with projects like this running in the community.

Hi I'm Anomie. I'm interested in research methods in Indigenous health, particularly action research, ethnography and reviews of programs incorporating cultural ways or driven by community. Love to hear about what's going on.

    Hi Chicky,
Great to hear from you, we met at the Darwin conference last September. Your pilot project sounds like it is going well and good luck with the remainder of it. If you want to at any time share the program with us please let me know.
    Regards

    Hullo Avinna.
We work up in the Broome, Dampier peninsular / Bidyadanga area in Environmental Health. One project we have been doing is a dog pilot program in One Arm Point and Djarindjin communities. The good news from this project outside of the "normal" dog health program, is to have the "dog act" more promtoted, bringing Community councils, Shire and Police in a more active role (especially the local remote community councils) and twicw a year de sxeing programs by a Vet.
We are nearlly at the end of this pilot and we have seen good changes.
Hopefully, powers that be will implement the results of this and implement it the rest of the State/ country?

    Cheers
    Chicky Clements
