Dear WAIHPN mob members,
This is an update from the WA state web resource on the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet (AIH) about expressions of interest for training on how to get the best use of the Preventing Aboriginal Maternal Smoking WAportal and PAMSWA yarning place.
Following the successful launch of the Preventing Aboriginal Maternal Smoking WA portal in June this year, training workshops for maternal and child health (MCH) workers and tobacco prevention staff in the use of the HealthInfoNet site and yarning places (with a specific focus on the maternal smoking prevention portal) are scheduled to be delivered within the next four months.
The training will be coordinated by AIH using a similar format to the existing HealthInfoNet workshops that are delivered to the Indigenous health workforce. Participants will be recruited for this training via the list of those people who have registered for the yarning places and through the former AMSSU’s contact list of MCH service providers in WA.
There will be provision for two to four training sessions (one to two hours in length) within the Perth metropolitan region. The first training session is proposed to take place in September at the HealthInfoNet offices at Edith Cowan University Mount Lawley campus.
The training will cover how to access and use the portal information and resources most effectively and how to register for the yarning place and connect with other service providers on the site.
By participating in a face-to-face learning experience on the portal and yarning place, and having the opportunity to ask questions and seek support, it is expected members will not only engage with the site to effectively utilise the information and resources, but will also establish connections with their peers.
For further information or to express interest in attending the training please contact:
Trish O’Hara via email at p.ohara@ecu.edu.au.
Please note: training sessions will take place when sufficient numbers of participants have registered their interest.
Kind regards

Hi WAIHPN yarning place members!
Here is an update from the WA state web resource on the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet about the deadline extension for the WA Disability Health Framework consultation survey.
There is still opportunity for you to have your say in the consultation of the draft WA Disability Health Framework: improving the health care of people with disability. The Framework outlines priorities for all areas of the health system, the disability sector and the community to focus their efforts towards improving the health outcomes of people with disability.
The online survey closes Wednesday 17 June 2015 and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. The draft Framework is available in both Office Word and PDF versions.
Anyone with an interest or involvement in improving the health of people with disability is invited to participate in the consultation to help shape this important Framework.
Alternatively if your organisation/service would like to hold a more targeted face-to-face feedback session with your staff or members, please contact us for support in doing so. If you have any queries, please email or phone (08) 9222 0200 the Disability Health Network.
